What is classed as a dental emergency?

A dental emergency usually involves sudden pain, swelling, bleeding or trauma that needs urgent attention. Can I have an emergency dental extraction at your practice?

Yes, we are often able to carry out emergency extractions if a tooth is causing significant pain or is beyond saving. Our dentist will examine the tooth first to determine the best course of action. If an extraction is the right option, we will aim to carry it out safely and promptly.

Is a loose dental implant an emergency?

A loose dental implant should never be ignored, even if it is not causing pain. It could indicate a problem with the bone or surrounding gum tissue and it is important to have it looked at promptly. Early intervention can prevent further complications and improve the chances of saving the implant.

Is a dental bridge falling out an emergency?

If your dental bridge has come loose or fallen out, it is best to treat it as an urgent issue. Not only can it affect your ability to eat or speak, but exposed teeth underneath may become sensitive or damaged. Contact us as soon as possible so we can secure or repair the bridge.

When is a dental abscess an emergency?

A dental abscess becomes an emergency if you have severe pain, swelling or a fever, as this could mean the infection is spreading. It is especially urgent if you notice swelling in your face or neck, or difficulty swallowing. Do not wait as an abscess needs quick treatment to prevent serious health risks!

Are wisdom teeth a dental emergency?

Wisdom teeth are not always an emergency but they can become one if they are causing intense pain, swelling or infection. Impacted or partially erupted wisdom teeth can quickly lead to complications. If you are in discomfort or notice signs of infection, it is best to get seen without delay.

What is the emergency dental appointment cost?

Emergency dental visit costs can vary depending on the treatment needed, but we will always give you a clear idea of the fees upfront. There is usually a consultation charge and any additional costs depend on whether treatment such as an extraction or a temporary filling is required. Feel free to call us and we will talk you through it.
